Richard's obituary
We regret to announce the passing of Richard Thomas, who passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on May 8, 2025. Richard was born on October 17, 1948, in Dracut, MA, to Natalie Reed and Merrill Thomas.
Richard attended Huggins Classical Institute and graduated in 1966. After high school, Richard served as a United States Marines Corporal during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. His service to his country was a testament to his loyalty and commitment. Through his heroic service, Richard was awarded several medals including a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
After being honorably discharged, Richard continued his studies at the University of New Hampshire, receiving his degree in 1983. Richard spent almost 40 years working at the University of New Hampshire, starting in 1980. After his retirement, he moved to Edgewater, FL with his daughter, Heather, and her family.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, brothers Merrill Thomas, Herbert Thomas, and David Thomas, sisters Ruth Dunfey and Loyce Gagnon, and great-granddaughter Mya Brock. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his three children: Heather Taylor (spouse Stanley Taylor), Richard Thomas II and David Thomas (spouse Trudy Thomas). He was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren, Kimberly Burns (spouse Brian Burns), Austin Brock (spouse Brianna Rice), Taylor Brock (partner Antonio Russell), Jaden Taylor, Avery Taylor, Richard Thomas III (spouse Arianna Thomas), Jeremey Thomas, Kaychele Cowenhoven (spouse Chris Cowenhoven), Joshua Ouellette, Shaun Oullette (Spouse Leticia Ouellette), and Vincent Ouellette, and 18 great grandchildren.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his selfless dedication to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
