Richard's obituary
Richard Michael Garner, 54, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away on 12/19/2023. He was born to parents Martha Jan Hall and Michael Garner, on 07/15/1969 in Mayfield, KY.
He graduated from Oldham County High School in 1987 and ventured to Florida for a few years before landing in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In recent years, he enjoyed frequent visits with family in his home state of Kentucky and looked forward to those opportunities to reconnect with his roots. In that aspect, Richard very much remained a Southern gentleman at heart.
Richard worked at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission for 5 years. He was well-known for his southern charm, including his notable accent and authentic manners, and for the flashy but comfortable outfits he put together to brighten the hallways of his workplace. Richard had recently been promoted to a new position within the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission when he received his cancer diagnosis. Many there were caught off guard that his journey ended so soon. He was described as bringing joy and immediate acceptance to those who crossed his path, and that along with his keen sense of humor, is definitely how he'd like to be remembered. He would be the first to tell you he loved his cat, his car, his clothes, and his cooking.
Richard is survived by his mother, Martha Jan Hall, father, Michael (Merle) Garner, brother Jason (Crystlal) Garner, and partner, Don Weisnic.
A Memorial Service for Richard Garner is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2:00 p.m. EST at Elizabethtown Church of Christ, 1211 N. Dixie Hwy Elizabethtown, KY 42701. Members of the Family will officiate the ceremony.
Richard's cremated remains will be buried in a private ceremony at a later date next to his maternal grandparents in Mayfield, Ky.
