Richard's obituary

Richard M. Garcia, 81, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born on April 30, 1938 to Reginald Garcia and Ruth Barba Garcia in Paso Robles, California. He had four siblings, Donald Garcia, Marlene Ojeda, James "Jimmy" Garcia and Louise Robinson. He married JoAnn Holstine in August 1972.

Richard graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1958 and was a member of the baseball and football teams. He joined the California National Guard in 1955 while still in high school and then joined the United States Air Force in 1958 upon graduation. He was stationed in Blaine, WA. and then in Greenland. He served his last few months in Labrador. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1962. He spent the next five years living in San Jose, California where he worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass and Watkins-Johnson Electric in Palo Alto, California.

Richard returned to his hometown of Paso Robles in 1966 and worked at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy for 22 years. He then worked for the State of California as a Hospital Peace Officer at Atascadero State Hospital and retired from there after 11 years.

Richard and JoAnn each had a child from previous marriages, Anthony “Tony” Garcia and Lisa Garcia and then in 1976 they welcomed their daughter Angela Garcia. He was passionate about softball and spent many years playing fast pitch as a pitcher along with coaching his wife and daughter’s softball teams. In retirement he enjoyed road trips, fishing, watching old western movies and spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, JoAnn Garcia, his children, Anthony Garcia, Lisa Englant, and Angela Guerrero, and grandchildren: Erik Stinger, Ryan Garcia, Amber Stinger, Rylee Garcia, Joshua Englant, Karissa Garcia, Gianna Cervantes, and Camryn Garcia. He is also survived by two siblings, Donald Garcia and Louise Robinson and many cousins.

Cremation has taken place and his final resting place will be at Templeton Cemetery in Templeton, California in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 5:30 pm at the Country Oaks Park in Paso Robles, California. (Corner of Theatre Drive & Golden Meadow Drive).
