Richard Collins FitzPatrick, PhD passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021 in Manhattan. Dick was born on Staten Island, and he and his wife Verna FitzPatrick have been residents of Roosevelt Island NYC for 39 years. Dick was a community leader, active in Boy Scouts, as a soccer coach, little league coach, librarian, chess instructor, Sunday school teacher, and member of the board at Coler Hospital, among other roles. With Verna, Dick traveled the world extensively. His appetite for knowledge and insight was insatiable and his life reflected a passion for fairness and a commitment to social progress.

“Professor FitzPatrick” received his BA from LeMoyne College, a Masters degree from Syracuse University and a Doctorate from SUNY Albany. He spent 27 years as a Professor of Management and Department Chair at Manhattan College in the Bronx, retiring in 2013. His academic publications included a study of the "Celtic Tiger," the period of rapid economic growth in the Republic of Ireland in the 1990s. Early in his career he held teaching positions at the State University of New York and CUNY, he was an official at the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development based in Richmond, Virginia, and he was a Head Start preschool teacher.

In addition to his wife Verna, he leaves behind two children, Robert FitzPatrick (Louise Levi) and Elena FitzPatrick Sifford, PhD (Justin); five grandchildren (Maeve, Fiona, Richard, Ruby, and Harold), and four siblings (Vincent, Rory, Mary, and Chris).
