Influential and effective educator who had a major impact on my development in communications and career. Enjoyed reuniting at an event just a few years ago. He contributed much for his students and profession.

The last time I saw Dick was a few years back (?) for lunch at the Greek Islands Restaurant with Tom & Alyce McCants. We had a marvelous mini-reunion. I just learned of Dick's death & am still in a state of shock. Our college fraternity days remain a fond memory. My heart felt condolences go out to Dick's family & friends.

Condolences to the Nelson family. Dr. Dick was instrumental in helping me become a journalism teacher when I attended UW-Whitewater. He also taught me how to be a journalist and navigate UW-W red-tape!
I still remember the Pre-KEMPA summer workshop pool parties at the house in Fort. Such good times.
He was a great person.

We met Dick (and Jenny) when he rented our Florida vacation cottage in 2020. Because of all the pandemic madness, we communicated constantly (he wasn't sure about staying the whole term, and, we weren't sure if we might not need the cottage to relocate our uncle stuck in assisted living) ... we developed a kind of "gentleman's agreement" to disregard lease and accommodate each other as things unfolded. Since then, the rental relationship became as much of a friendship, and we looked forward to getting together during his winter stays, to include boating and restaurant meet ups (Italian of course!). We are grateful that we got to know him, and our hearts go out to Jenny and all the family. God Bless.
