Richard's obituary

Phoenix, AZ – Richard Lawrence Casey, of Gardner, MA, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Dec 29, 2024 after battling with the complications of a hemorrhagic stroke.

Richard is survived by his children Robbin (and Ted) Demeritte, Michael (and Dolly) Casey, Daniel (and Ana) Casey, Meredith Casey Red, His grandchildren: Nevada (and Chad) Shane, Alani Casey, Ryan (and Austin) Casey, Natasha and Dalton Casey, and great grands: Liam and Owen Shane. He was the son of the late Lawrence J Casey and Ival Clark Astor.

Richard Lawrence Casey was a genius. I’m not sure what the qualifications or parameters are in order to be called a genius, but to me, my lovingly devoted, beautifully flawed dad, was a genius. He was a gifted artist, designer, inventor, a problem solver, a dreamer, a pioneer in his field… always driven, always in relentless pursuit of… what? Survival? The almighty dollar? Success, accolades, recognition? Perhaps some of all of that, but ultimately, I don’t think so. Sure, his motives were mostly practical and the struggle to survive was real, but over the years I watched him agonize over how to honor our Heavenly Father with the works of his hands. That was his true and ultimate goal. That was his purest motive, that was his heart.

Richard's work graces thousands of homes, offices, churches and galleries throughout the world. He owned and ran many studios and businesses over the years from Laguna Beach to Malibu, Palm Springs, and culminating with “The Casey Collection” in Scottsdale, AZ. He will be remembered for his talent, humor, inspiration and encouragement of other artists, and his relentless pursuit of beauty. His greatest love, however, was for his Savior, Redeemer, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

We will miss him terribly, but until we meet again, happy painting in Heaven, my brilliant, generous Poppadoodle. We love you so!
