Richard's obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Richard “Ricky” J. Burnes Jr., who departed this life on April 7, 2026 in Anna Maria, Florida at the age of 66.

Ricky is survived by Andrea Burnes; his sons, Jonathon, Richard III, Benjamin, and his wife Melissa; and his grandchildren, Theodore and Samuel. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Jeanmarie; brothers, Shawn, Michael and his wife Kathy. He was predeceased by his mother, Jean “Mutzy” Burnes; father, Richard “Bun” Burnes; and his brother, Joseph. He also leaves behind beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ricky was a devoted Boston sports fan, a proud member of the Quincy High School football team, a rugby player, and a fierce candlepin bowler. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess, and was a dedicated coach of his sons’ youth soccer teams. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed Stephen King novels. Ricky loved dogs and had a deep affection for his dachshunds, Rocky, Apollo, and Camo.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service for many years, living in Quincy and then Falmouth, Massachusetts. He spent his final chapter in Anna Maria, Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine and the companionship of a wide circle of friends.

Ricky’s absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. May his memory be a source of comfort, and may he rest in peace.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on April 24 at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy, Massachusetts. Visiting hours will begin at 10:00 a.m. The memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m.
