Richard's obituary

Richard Maurice Bird, a cherished father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and friend peacefully departed this world on June 27, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born November 30, 1947, in Payson, Utah, to Maurice C. Bird and Mary Williams Bird. He grew up in Springville, graduated from Springville High School, and received a degree from Brigham Young University. He served a mission to Ireland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Richard was a remarkable soul, known for his warm heart, friendly demeanor, and a unique talent for finding joy in even the smallest moments. He touched the lives of countless individuals, both in the classroom and on the soccer field, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.

As a dedicated educator and coach, Richard devoted many years to inspiring young minds and nurturing athletes, always blending wisdom with good humor. His radiant spirit could light up any room, and his ability to connect deeply with people from all walks of life created lasting bonds and beautiful memories.

He was an immensely proud father to Jennifer Kline and Richard Bird Jr., and a loving grandfather to Ashley, Sarah, and Michael Kline and is survived by them. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wallace Bird, a sister Marian Bird Smoot (Doug), and is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Bird Palfreyman (Grant). Richard's legacy will forever resonate through the love he shared, the laughter he spread, and the profound impact he had on so many lives simply by being authentically himself.

His absence will be felt deeply by his family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 10:00 am at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, August 23rd at 1 :00 pm at the Messinger Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Condolences may be expressed to the family on this page.
