Richard Wilson, a much-loved father, educator, and sportsman, was born on December 22, 1934, and passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024. He was a man known and celebrated for his calm demeanor, his unwavering commitment to his students and athletes, and above all, his devotion to his family and faith. Richard's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his sons, Richard Wilson II and Douglas Wilson, who will forever cherish the memories of their father and the invaluable lessons he taught them. Richard believed in imparting practical skills to his children, teaching his sons how to maintain their homes and vehicles. He was a beacon of quiet strength, always leading by example. Richard retired from Kennedy Middle School in Clearwater after many years as a physical education and history teacher and basketball and track coach.
A former track star at the University of Florida, Richard carried his love for sports into his professional life, coaching many teams to county championships. His devotion to his athletes mirrored his commitment to his family, demonstrating the depth of his character and the breadth of his empathy.
An avid reader of science fiction, Richard often found solace and adventure amidst the pages of his favorite books. His taste in music leaned towards the country genre, the melodies and lyrics of which often filled the Wilson household.
A Memorial service in honor of Richard will be held at 11am on September 21, 2024, at Calvary Church - Clearwater, where he was an active member. His faith was a guiding light in his life, providing solace and strength in times of need.
Richard was more than just a quiet and polite man. He was an individual who lived for the joy of his family, the progress of his students, and the thrill of athletics. Richard Wilson may have left us, but his spirit and teachings will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
