Please consider a contribution to Declan & Reece Hockey and Sport Fund.

Background

Hockey was at the heart of so much of Rich’s life with his boys. Nothing brought him more pride or joy than watching Declan and Reece lace up their skates, step onto the ice, and play the game they loved. Early mornings at the rink, long drives to tournaments, helping with gear, and cheering from the stands made hockey more than just a sport in their home. It was time together, life lessons, and countless memories.

Rich’s love for hockey began long before his own boys laced up their skates. Growing up in Winnipeg, he spent countless hours on frozen ponds and outdoor rinks, playing shinny after school and on weekends with his dad and brothers. Those moments cemented his passion for the game and shaped the way he later shared hockey with Declan and Reece, not just as a sport, but as time together, joy, and connection.

Rich believed deeply in what hockey teaches. Teamwork, commitment, resilience, and showing up for one another were values he lived every day and passed on to his sons both on and off the ice. Through hockey, the boys found confidence, friendships, and a community that became an extension of their family and means more now than ever.

Beyond the rink, Rich had a lifelong love of sport, movement, and adventure. He embraced skateboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing, wind sports, and anything that involved being active, curious, and outdoors. He believed in trying new things, following your passions, and saying yes to experiences. That same belief extended beyond sport to learning, growth, and setting his boys up with opportunities that would help them build full and meaningful lives.

So many people from the hockey community and beyond have reached out asking how they can help. Your kindness, care, and willingness to support this family have been an incredible source of strength, and we are deeply grateful.

In response, this fund has been created in Rich’s honour to support Declan and Reece’s hockey journeys, their education, and the sports and activities they choose to pursue in the years ahead. While hockey remains a central part of their lives, this fund is intentionally designed to grow with them and support future passions and learning opportunities that reflect the active, curious, and adventurous life their dad loved so much.

One hundred percent of all donations will go directly toward expenses related to Declan and Reece’s hockey, education, and personal development. This may include hockey association and team fees, tournaments, travel, equipment, training, educational needs, and opportunities that allow them to explore new interests over time. Funds will be used thoughtfully as needs arise.

Your support is more than financial. It is a powerful reminder to the boys that they are surrounded by a community that cares deeply for them, believes in them, and will continue to stand beside them as they move forward.

Thank you for honouring Rich in a way that reflects his love for hockey, his passion for sport and adventure, and his unwavering devotion to his boys.
