Rich's obituary

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Rich “RD” Moore went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2021 at the age of 67, due to a medical condition while SCUBA diving at Deception Pass, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Joanne. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Dianne, son Richard, daughter Rachel, son-in-law Luke, and "Bapa's angel girl" 3-year old granddaughter, Averie.

Growing up in Southern California, Rich developed a love for nature, particularly the ocean, actively surfing and diving local spots both for recreation and to aid in search and recovery. He met his wife, Dianne, in high school in 1969 during a sweetheart dance, and they have been together for 51 years. Ever inquisitive, Rich would spend free time when not with family or in the ocean, actively studying a variety of subjects. He loved applying his knowledge when completing various projects and would often comment on the joy in seeing the end product or result of a process, instilling this value and ability in his children.

After studying biology and giving up plans to be a dentist, Rich had a 44-year career of managing commercial and residential construction, which brought him from San Bernardino, CA to Renton, WA. Along the way he was a patient mentor at any opportunity. He had a great capacity to teach others while treating all he came in contact with as equals. He was quick to buddy up with any "new guy/gal" at a group dive. In addition to mentoring in recreational activities, he was quick to teach many in the construction trade. He was an avid and colorful storyteller, and would frequently regale anyone given the opportunity with stories: his favorites being history and politics, diving adventures, and growing up in Southern California.

A faithful follower of Christ, Rich had a generous heart and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He frequently talked of Averie and could often be found crawling with her on the floor at most family functions. In the weeks prior to his passing, he spent time with his family on a sailing trip and had completed planning an upcoming Hawaii vacation with many hours set aside to show Averie the tropical marine life he loved.

A memorial service for Rich will be held at Faith Church (25636 140th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98042) on Thursday, May 27th at 1:30pm. In addition, graveside services will be held at Rich's final resting place, Montecito Memorial Park (3520 E Washington Street, Colton, CA 92324) on Thursday, June 3rd at 1:00pm.

The Rich D. Moore Memorial Fund has been established with the Marine Science and Technology Center (MaST) at Highline College to empower others to learn and celebrate the biological richness of the Puget Sound.
