Ricardo's obituary
Ricardo Alister Walker, affectionately known as Rick, Big Rick and Rock was born on October 29, 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. to Beverly Loveridge and Donald Walker. Ricardo's early childhood was spent with his belated grandmother, Maude Brown, belated uncle, Noel Green, and aunt Amy Green, whom he loved and cherished dearly. They nurtured and cared for him as a young child in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, where he attended Goshen All Age School and St. Elizabeth Technical High School.
In the 1988, Ricardo migrated to Mount Vernon, New York to live with his family. He graduated in 1992 from Mount Vernon High School, where he played and developed his passion for football. Ricardo continued his education at Virginia Union University, where he met the love of his life, Jamila Walker, his freshman year. He was a successful athlete who also achieved academic excellence. Ricardo graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics in 1997.
Ricardo and Jamila married in 1997 and as a result of their union, they had two beautiful daughters, Zuri and Renee. He took great pride in his role as a husband and father. Ricardo often referred to his daughters as his “princesses”. He loved spending time with his wife and daughters. Together they enjoyed bike rides, road trips, movie and game nights, along with many other memorable moments. He loved bringing home gifts and surprises, taking joy in seeing the reactions they would have.
Ricardo was a diligent and tenacious worker, determined to provide for his family. After graduating from college, he went on to work in construction sales, but had an overwhelming entrepreneurial spirit. He was in partnership with several business ventures, including home improvement, construction and as an independent business owner. Through mentorship, hard work and dedication, Ricardo and Jamila obtained the esteemed Ruby level within the Amway business in 2005. Together, they mentored many people, assisting them in building their businesses and pursuing their goals and dreams.
From his early years in Jamaica, Ricardo had a great interest in track and field. He also enjoyed football, basketball, listening to music, traveling, and trying new foods. Ricardo had a love and passion for playing and coaching the game of dominos. He took great pride as the vice captain for the Klassique Domino Team, being an integral part to their successful tournament wins.
Ricardo was a big guy with an even bigger heart. His smile and laughter lit up a room. As a very giving person, he never passed up the opportunity to help those in need. He was caring, loving, and empathetic but also a force to be reckoned with. Ricardo was a leader and never a follower. He always encouraged others to think for themselves and to always seek the truth. His impact will forever be cemented in all of the lives he has touched over the years.
On December 30, 2023 Ricardo was called home to be with the Lord. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hilton and Maude Brown, Lotty and Aston Loveridge, and Noel Green (uncle). His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 26 years, Jamila, daughters Zuri and Renee, his mother, Beverley Loveridge, father, Donald Walker, stepmother Novlette Walker, sister Dionnie, brothers, Andre, Dwight, Jason, Rashawn, Chevar and Donald Jr,. Ricardo leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other beloved family and friends.
