Reva's obituary
Reva G. Fischer, 90, of Canton, MA, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Louis and Sylvia Granat (of Brooklyn, NY), loving wife of Rodman Fischer, beloved mother of Betsy Ross and Miles Neustein, and dearest grandmother of Adam and Emma Ross.
Reva grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where her love of learning and advanced intelligence earned her a high school graduation date two years before her contemporaries. She attended Brooklyn College, graduating one year early with honors, where she studied child development and education. Moving to New Jersey as a young bride, she taught children in kindergarten through sixth grade in several Bergen County schools. Reva worked into her late seventies as a permanent substitute teacher in several NJ school systems. During Betsy and the grandchildren’s frequent visits to NJ, trips to the local park almost always yielded a friendly “Hello, Mrs. Fish” and a hug from a teen or young parent who had been a student of Reva’s.
As a young mother, Reva taught private lessons in classical piano for many years. Her lifelong love for the arts was evidenced by her frequent trips to Broadway and the Cambridge, MA, American Repertory Theater, independent films, live music shows, and lots of music sharing (she even had a Spotify account)!
Reva and her husband Rod moved to MA in 2015 to be closer to daughter Betsy and the grandchildren. Reva became a well-known personality at the local library in Canton, MA, where the dedicated and friendly staff would place books they believed would be of interest to her on hold. In her later years, Reva enjoyed three trips to Europe (Italy twice and most recently, the south of France). She was planning a Rhine River cruise with her daughter, Betsy, for this coming Spring.
Reva is survived by many dear friends (old and new), loving family, neighbors, and co-workers. The family requests that donations in honor of Reva Fischer and her magnificent life be made to ortamerica.org or artsforlearningma.org
