Rev. Richard's obituary
Rev. Richard N. Wellington, beloved son of Michael S. Nagbe and Tomah F. Wellington, was born in May 1960, in Monrovia, Liberia. From humble beginnings, Wellington made his way to the United States, where he built a meaningful life as a devoted family man, a hard-working professional, and a faithful servant of God.
Wellington began his career in the medical field as a proctologist, where he served patients with professionalism, care, and dignity. As his calling to ministry grew stronger, he gradually shifted his focus to the church, dedicating more of his time and energy to spiritual service. Later, he worked as a caregiver for the city, offering compassionate support to those in need while continuing to provide for his family.
Through every role—medical, civic, and spiritual—Wellington lived a life marked by service, humility, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. In April 2025, after more than four decades of tireless service, Wellington retired to embrace his next chapter.
A devoted man of faith, Wellington was a faithful member of Joy World Universal Church and was ordained as a Pastor of the Lord’s Church in 2011. His calling led him to found Eternal Life Ministries, with branches in Minneapolis, MN, and Liberia, West Africa. His mission was clear: to touch lives, preach salvation, and guide souls toward God. He was truly a man after God’s own heart.
Though his hands were often busy, his heart was always with the Lord. His Bible was never far from reach. Wellington spent countless hours reading the Word and praying fervently for his children, grandchildren, and loved ones. His greatest desire was that each of them know and walk with God.
Outside of ministry, Wellington was known for his warmth and sense of humor. His joyful spirit could light up a room. He loved taking pictures, playfully teasing those around him, playing his guitar, and watching soccer and basketball. A good game and a hearty meal brought him peace and comfort.
He is survived by his loving spouse and partner, Apostle Cherry James Wellington, as well as his devoted children: Silas B. Wellington, Tomah S. Wellington, Charlene M. Wellington, Jasmin N. Wellington, and Rachel T. Wellington.
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ariane, Ace, Silas Jr., Amaris, and Roman.
Rev. Wellington’s life was a true reflection of faith, strength, and service. His legacy lives on in every life he touched and every prayer he lifted. He ran his race, kept the faith, and now rests in eternal peace.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
