Shaky's obituary

                                                                                                                      Celebration of Life

Reshayla “Shaky” Dannette Bradfield was caring, fun-loving, and loyal. She left this world on August 26, 2022 at age 46.

Shaky was born to Oliver Bradfield and Diane (Moore) Bradfield on May 27, 1976 in Jackson, MS. Upon graduating from Jim Hill High School in 1994, she earned a full academic ride to Alcorn State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and Foreign Languages (1998), and a master’s degree in Education and Psychology (2004). Beneath the shade of giant trees, Shaky was an active member of the Alcorn State University Gospel Choir which birthed an entirely new family of friends and confidantes.

Shaky entered corporate America immediately after leaving Alcorn, but eventually gave in to her true calling – teaching. In 2007, she returned to Jim Hill High School as an English teacher before moving on to share her knowledge at other campuses within the district. For 15 years, Shaky positively impacted the education of many students in Jackson Public Schools -both as a teacher and a counselor; from elementary to high school. Shaky approached her career with a servant spirit which resulted in being recognized as campus Teacher of the Year in 2021.

Shaky loved spending time with friends, but she really appreciated quiet time at home watching animated films (cartoons) while simultaneously playing word or logic games on her phone. Though she would never brag about her cooking skills, her family raved about the cajun pasta and Oreo pies she would always contribute on holidays and family gatherings.

Shaky was a hopeless romantic as evidenced by her choice in music, her favorite movies, the literature she read, and the poetry she wrote. She often said, “I just want rainbows and blue skies.”

On August 26, 2022, Reshayla Bradfield-Hicks departed her earthly body and entered the embrace of those that preceded her in death: Oliver Bradfield, father; Angela Moore, sister; maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as some aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Those that loved Shaky will definitely feel an important part of their life is missing. Amongst the ones left to cherish and honor her memories are: Diane Bradfield, mother; Christen Futch, daughter; Atlantis Kyle, step-daughter; siblings, Dealma (Perry) Evans, Marcus Donald, Melinda Lewis, and Willie (LaTonya) Moore Johnson; Robert Hicks, former husband and forever soulmate; nieces and nephews, Avaughn Johnson, Breshaun Neal, Percia Blair, Almarion Nelson, Brad Ringgold Jr., Broderick Ringgold, Breanna Ringgold, Darian Lewis, Mareanne Donald, Cameron Luckett, Marcus Donald, Jr. Special mention must be made of members of The Alcorn Gospel Choir; mentor and dear friend, Shenetra (Doc) Burse-Dawson and her brothers and sister in love, Timothy Dupree, Diral (Sam) Ball, Derek Holt, Roger Roberson, and Toya (Edwards) Frierson. There are a host of other close relatives and friends that have not been named that played a key role in her life. The family thanks you all for loving Reshayla Dannette Bradfield-Hicks.
