Rene Benjamin Guevara

December 1932-November 2,2022

Rene was born at a Maternity Cottage in Los Angeles, California. The youngest of four children

of Pedro Guevara ( Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico) and Maria Guadalupe Duarte ( Yecora, Sonora,

Mexico). Rene grew up in the historic south central area of Los Angeles, before the 110 and 10

freeways were built. He attended and was an alter boy at St Vincents de Paul Catholic Church.

He attended Loyola High school and earned his AA degree from Los Angeles City College in

1953. He went on to a successful business career starting as a truck driver to salesman to

manager and ultimately Furniture Buyer at Dearden's Department store, retiring in 2001 after 42

years of service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Agnes Callender, his two older brothers,

Hector Guevara and Rogelio Guevara, MD.

From his first marriage he was blessed with three beautiful children: Randolph Rene Guevara,

Martin Dennis Guevara, OD and Cynthia Schols. From his second marriage to Lorraine Smith

Guevara (l) he was blessed with two even more beautiful children: Laura Lupe Guevara and

Alicia Guevara Page, MD.

He is survived by all five off his children and his sister, Grace Guevara Geer.

He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren: James Rene Santaserio, Katey Santaserio, Matthew

Guevara, Melanie Guevara and step granddaughter, Emily Page.

Rene moved to Redondo Beach in 1963 when there were only oil fields in the area and his

family called his crazy to leave LA. He raised his children at the beach and would often ride his

bike along the stand and take long drives around Palos Verdes, especially Neptune Fountain in

Malaga Cove. Rene loved to travel, going to the gym and having coffee with the guys at

Starbucks.
