Red River's obituary
Anna M. Meredith, "Red River Of Flowing Grasses”, 80 years young, of Martinez, CA, passed away on October 05, 2022 at 6:33 am. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones at home.
Red (as she was affectionately called) was predeceased by her brother, Don Meredith, sister Lyn Meredith and parents Arlie J. & Louise Meredith. She is survived by her daughter, Paige M. Devereaux, grandson, Giovanti L. Biafora Sr., granddaughter, Josephine Ajanà Griffin and Great grandchildren Angelo Biafora & Giovanti Biafora Jr., nieces and nephews; Chris Meredith, Cory Meredith , Carrie Meredith Sumnik, Cheryl Meredith Flatt, Dawn Meredith and a host of chosen family members.
Red was always openly and undeniably who she was. She was self educated in astronomy, literature and history with a diverse and extensive library. Red was an avid artist and lover of love & laughter. When describing the value that gave her strength and endurance, she would say “love”. Love got her through thick and thin. She expressed that love verbally to her inner circle and also through painting, poetry and beading . Her home is wrapped in paintings and indigenous hand beaded artifacts- each with its wonderful story.
In her own words, her greatest accomplishment by far was her “baby girl” Paige, who she also said saved her life and changed her for the better. As the years waxed, she added Gio, Josie, baby Gio and Angelo to the list.
Our mother, Red River of Flowing Grasses, was one of the most selfless, courageous, dedicated, wittiest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. She was a free spirit and a fiercely loyal and protective mother and grandmother instilling the wonder of life in all of us. Her vision for every experience was to find and share the enchantment with her loved ones.
She was an excellent mom; supportive, kind, hilarious, and generous and we will all miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers we ask that a monetary gift be made to an educational fund for her “babies” and to cover part of her memorial celebration (details to come). Please accept our immense gratitude for your love and generosity.
