Rebecca's obituary
Rebecca Janette Hamilton Oubouzar, age 39, passed away at home in Kearneysville, West Virginia, on Sunday, May 21st, after a lengthy battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. She was born on May 1st, 1984 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Nancy and George Hamilton. Her beloved husband, Cherif Oubouzar, cared for her throughout the course of her cancer battle and was present when Rebecca joined the ancestors. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 10th, at 4 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick at 4880 Elmer Derr Road, Frederick, MD, 21703.
Rebecca grew up in Mount Vernon, Virginia, and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria. She worked various jobs during her life, most recently a 16-year employment with the Institute for Building Technology and Safety. Rebecca was the owner and main crafter of Raven’s Own, a small business she developed with her husband Cherif, specializing in chain mail jewelry, pendulums, clay and wood charms and figurines, and more. She developed a unique divination system known as the “Kahina Stones” that was inspired by the symbology and culture of the Kabyle of North Africa. Rebecca is the author of the Wise Woman’s Companion and Pocket Companion, support texts for the Kahina Stones.
Rebecca was a beloved, long-time presence in the Pagan, Sci Fi, and alternative lifestyle scene in the mid-Atlantic region. Her community work was extensive - she helped organize and staff many large events over the last 20 years. Whether vending, volunteering, or attending, she was a vital and cherished part of the many gatherings she supported. Her hugs were legendary and her laughter could light a room with its joy.
Rebecca is survived by her husband Cherif, brother Michael Hamilton, mother Nancy Hamilton, beloved stepchildren Karim and wife Leah, Tarik, and Amal Oubouzar, mother-in-law Sharon Oubouzar, metamours Debbie Jones, Asha Storm, and Frederick Friedel, and father George Hamilton.
Rebecca was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in March of 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a GoFundMe established to help support her family and manage medical bills at https://gofund.me/b2cbf31c, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
