Becky's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rebecca "Becky" Bransley (nee Rehm), who left us on July 9, 2024. Born in 1957, Becky will always be remembered through the lives she touched during her time here with us.
A vibrant individual, Becky was defined by her warm and welcoming demeanor. She was kind, independent, and fun-loving. One could find her dancing whenever music played no matter where she was. Often referred to as a "Momma Bear," Becky was a pillar of strength and the backbone of her family. Her intelligence and problem-solving skills were highly recognized, and many turned to her for guidance.
Becky married the love of her life, Robert Bransley Jr., in 1982. Together, they built a beautiful life and brought their precious daughter, Sarah Bransley, into the world in 1989. They welcomed her grandpuppy, Dublin, into the family in 2018. She dubbed herself his "Bebe". She was thrilled when her son-in-law, Görkem Gengör, officially joined the family in March 2024. Becky's love extended beyond her immediate family. She was blessed with a large, loving family and is survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many treasured friends. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Margaret and Frederick Rehm, in-laws, Joan and Robert Bransley Sr., sister-in-law Beth Hammett, brother-in-law Jack Bransley, and niece Amelia Rogers, whose memories she held closely in her heart.
Becky was a selfless woman who dedicated her time to volunteering most recently at Dysautonomia International. Previously, she was a Scout Leader in the Girl Scouts when her daughter was young. She also chose to work part-time for the Census multiple years as she valued her civic duty. A true team player, she was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, seldom missing a game. She also loved to travel. Her favorite vacation spots were along the beaches and in the mountains, where she enjoyed the serene beauty of nature.
She loved working to help others and found much joy after joining the University of Illinois Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. They truly valued her work in assisting faculty and students withthe administrative aspects of running world renown labs, including coordinating purchases and travel. She adored her co-workers and loved discussing the research and impacts her professors had on the world. While working there, she earned a certificate in Research Administration after a year-long course. It was another example of her hardworking and curious mindset.
In her uniquely witty way, she often shared lessons of wisdom, notably: "Work smarter, not harder." and "You're washable." (often used when her daughter was young). Her greatest accomplishment was her daughter, Sarah. She was immensely proud of all her daughter's achievements and loved her beyond measure.
Becky's absence leaves a void in our lives, but her spirit and the love she shared continue to warm our hearts. As we remember her, we seek solace in the good times spent with her and in the knowledge that her life was a legacy of love and service.
We invite all who knew and loved Becky to be of support to Bob and Sarah during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
