Rebecca Ann Payne, 66, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2023 at her residence.

Born November 28, 1957 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Carpenter and Myrtle Mae Ward Carpenter.

Rebecca was a free-spirit that wore her heart on her sleeve. She laughed and cried easily, loved the outdoors, animals and more than anything she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Payne and her beloved pet, Tipper.

She is survived by her children: Kenneth Moody and Geneva Hedrick; grandchildren: Jared Moody, Ethan Moody, Sierra Hefner, Caleb Hedrick and Micah Hedrick; great-grandchild, Adam Moody; brothers: Richard Payne and Fred Carpenter; and sisters: Darlene Payne and Linda Carpenter.

A service to celebrate Rebecca’s life will be held at a later date.

Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the Payne family.
