Raymond Lewis Whitley, 79, of Pantego, Texas, passed into glory January 6, 2024.

Ray was born on December 2, 1944, to Zelbert Raymond (“Cotton”) and Audrey Pearl Whitley, in San Francisco, CA, but lived in Texas most of his life. 

Ray was a warrior and protector. He served four years in the United States Air Force, during which he received two awards for products he invented to make the work safer and more efficient for him and his fellow airmen. After the Air Force, he worked for the Grand Prairie Police Department for seven years, earning multiple commendations including Rookie of the Year and reaching the rank of detective. The next step in his career was to establish the security and private investigations company that he would run for the remainder of his career. As a private investigator, he made a positive impact on many lives through hard work and dedication with a focus on integrity.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Whitley, his daughters Tracy McCosh, Angela Gentry, and April Michaels, April’s husband Rob, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his sisters Elouise Flores and Patsy Horton, Patsy’s husband Bobby, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 7th, at the DFW National Cemetery (2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX). If you plan to attend, please arrive 15 to 20 minutes prior to the service time and gather with other friends and family at the main gate. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite veterans charity.
