Raymond's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond "John" MacLeod Jr. Born in Idaho on the 2nd of December, 1956, John departed from this world on the 19th of December, 2024, leaving behind a life distinguished by devotion to family, service to his country, hard work, and an abiding love for simple pleasures. John was a baptized Roman Catholic and a believer in God.

A Colorado resident since 1996, John was a seaman employed at the United States Navy from 1977 to 1981, embodying service and dedication in every facet of his life. John was a skilled machinist and mechanic; there was nothing he couldn't work on. After serving in the Navy, he worked for MailWell (Cenveo), Robinson Brick, and UE Compression. To keep busy in retirement, he picked up a part time job at the local grocery store. His family and friends fondly remember him as caring, funny, and easy-going.

His life was enriched by the birth of his children in 1991, Ian, and 1993, Sydney, and the arrival of a beloved granddaughter, Wyleigh, in 2021. He took great pleasure in attending car shows, spending quality time with his granddaughters and family, and indulging in the comfort of a good nap. John was also an animal lover, always having a trusty rescue dog by his side. Outside of Colorado, Oregon was a favorite place of John's. In his later years, he moved back to Oregon for several years before again returning to Colorado.

John loved Stephen King's books and enjoyed a wide range of music genres, especially rock, with favorite artists like The Beatles, ZZ Top, Tom Petty, and Stevie Wonder. John always had music or talk radio playing. He was a big football fan, mostly of the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. He also enjoyed watching some basketball when the Portland Blazers played. His favorite color was green, a question he answered almost weekly to his granddaughter. John enjoyed a variety of food, frequenting local restaurants and trying new places. His preferred drink was beer, but grew fond of sparkling water in his older age. Glenfiddich was a favorite of his and it was a tradition for him to be gifted a bottle at Christmas.

John is survived by his daughter Sydney Quigle, and son Ian MacLeod, and his granddaughters Wyleigh MacLeod and Maija Clark. His son-in-law Jason Quigle and daughter-in-law Heidi MacLeod also mourn their loss, along with his siblings, Bridgette Peters, Chris Walker, Deborha Weikum-Nall, Dennis Walker, Heidi Johnson, Lee Weikum, and Lewis Weikum. John is also survived by his eight nieces, Amanda, Betty, Erika, Gina, Jessica, Mekenzee, Olivia, and Suzanne, and his seven nephews, Drew, Gary, Jake, James, Jeremy, Nason, and Wally. He was predeceased by his parents Veronica Peterson and Raymond MacLeod Sr, and his brother Joey MacLeod.

A funeral will be held for John on January 31, 2025 at 10:30 AM MST at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Aurora, CO. The funeral service will be preceded by a Celebration of Life on January 31, 2025 at Sydney's property, 6020 Highway 79, Bennett, CO 80102. Please note, the celebration will occur in a barn. Although the barn will be heated, please dress in layers to ensure your comfort. Pizza and beer, two of John's favorite things, will be served during the celebration.

John's final resting place will be at Willamette National Cemetery. A Navy Honors burial service will be held on February 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM PST. After the service, please join as at a local restaurant for an additional Celebration of Life. The restaurant will soon be announced.

His legacy is defined by his hard work and love for his family. John often shared that his two children were his greatest accomplishment. Family meant the world to John and he always wanted to help his family however he could. You often heard John saying, 'that is what family is for.' His children are his enduring legacy, and his spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who loved him. John was a giver of life through eye and tissue donations.
