Daddy!!!! I'm still in shock. It is so painful that I didn't get the chance to say good bye to you. You were one of the kindest, most generous, most compassionate people that I ever come across. I want to thank you for the legacy that you left behind for us. Surely we will continue to benefit from the seeds of goodness that you sowed in your lifetime. What an inheritance! I am so honoured and blessed to have you as my father-in-law. Continue to rest on in the bosom of the Lord until we meet again.
Grandpa I cannot believe you are gone. I think about you everyday and I smile to myself. I thank God for letting me grow up in your presence. Such a wonderful, generous, and caring soul. I remember all the times we spent together and the funny memories you have given me. I prayed for your health and I always thought of you. You brought happiness to my life and I am dedicating my success to you. You entered this earth and fulfilled your purpose. It hurts me to let you go. I miss you so much and I wish I had a chance to say goodbye. Thank you so much Grandpa. I love you so much. May you rest in eternal peace.
Daddy.........still can't believe you are gone forever! I will forever miss you......your jokes, your gestures......you were always fun to be around, there was never a dull moment with you. I will definitely miss those jokes and stories you tell us and most especially the way you call my name in Ondo dialect.......Rest in peace daddy.
For being such an inspirational figure in the lives of many including my own and for raising such a wonderful family I want to say thank you grandpa. As painful as it is, I know that you have gone to meet the Father in Heaven who will surely bless you for your great deeds. I love you and I miss you.
It is with a great sense of loss that I learnt of the news of Lt. Col. R. O. Iluyomade (rtd). We were classmates at Ondo Boys High School. We started in class 1 in 1955. Raphael later went on to distinguish himself in the Nigerian Army, especially during the civil war. We proudly hail his gallantry in the battle of Ore, where the Biafran Army's retreat began. Little did I know that the last time I would see him was at the memorial service for our Principal and our revered English teacher, late Archdeacon J.A. Iluyomade. We had planned to meet at the OBHS centenary celebrations in Ondo, but alas, we missed each other. Rafael loved life and his various "families"- Iluyomade, Ondo, OBHS, Nigerian Army. Although Rafael was older than I am, he always regarded me as his classmate and in the typical Ondo dialect, I became his "awe", which shows his humility. Awe, Rest In Peace as we glorify the Good Lord for your contributions to our lives. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Glory to God in the Highest Heavens.
Uncle., Can't believe you are gone as I can remember the video of you arriving at Ojodu before your flight to the US which was sent to me. You have always been a man of integrity, you had a sense of duty and a passion for others. You loved people ever so much. However. God and your family were your bed rock.
Your courage and your humour is something I will never forget.
A great man with big heart, always brought family and friends together. He will be sorely missed and may his departed soul rest in the bosom of the Lord till we meet again. Adieu baba.
I pray for God's Grace to be with the family and help you cope with the loss of Lt. Col. He and sang bass in the choir of All Saints Anglican Church. He will be missed, please accept my condolence. May his rest in peace with the Lord. Blessings!
Uncle, I’m still in shock that you’re gone. Your impact in my life is priceless, your encouragement to strive for success at all time makes me who I am today. You were a great disciplinarian, a punctual man and very diligent. Your character is worthy of emulation Your generous and kind heart is to all and sundry, known and unknown ,even animals, birds,(domestic and free range) dogs etc can testify to it. You were a Great man, your demise (Nov/12/20) deserves a national public holiday. This I will put in place, if I, by chance, find myself in a position of power. I missed you!
Daddy, Where can I start from? What do I want to say? What can I say?................ I salute you dad, my hero and mentor. If I could come back to this life again, I want to be born by you into the Iluyomade family. You came, You saw, You conquered. I salute you dad for a powerful legacy, a life well spent, indeed a quality life. I salute you dad for you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. During the four decades-plus that I’ve known Col. & Mrs. Iluyomade and their [then] growing family, they and all the children have taken me like a family member, including Little Ore-Ofe, whose achievements, like those of her older brothers and sister, Sade, show how gracious God has been to Col. and Auntie. To everybody from Sade all the way down, I am “Auntie Ronke” or simply “Auntie”.
If I may, I will like to mention just a point in the lives of Col. & Mrs. Iluyomade. Auntie is the very introspective, patient, and one-step-at-a-time private person while Colonel is the proverbial ‘man of the people’ who is ready to go to Maiduguri from Lagos, leaving an unfinished meal just to help somebody who needs urgent help in Maiduguri! They are a perfect couple who understand each other very well.
Their various family homes in Nigeria were always boisterous happy places where everybody was welcome, thanks to the gift of a love of family and extended families that both shared, a situation that those of us they left in Nigeria since they emigrated to the States in the Early ‘90s, missed dearly. Seeing them became an occasional thing. Like their many friends and family, I will cherish Col’s memories: his kindness, his readiness to help and his love of music be it Church or classical, and his love of their Ondo hometown.
My prayers for Auntie, Sade, Ore-Ofe and The Boys is that God will be husband and father to the family, and c9mfort them, giving them the strength to bear this collosal loss, and may He continue to shower abundant blessings on you all.
May God accept the soul of Col.Ade Iluyomade, a fervent Christian and a chorister both at his church in Nigeria and America, and I pray He will console all his loved ones left behind.
Uncle, you were my favourite ,I loved the bond you had with your sister,my mum.I always looked forward to seeing you,you were fun to be with, always had something interesting to talk about,it was never a dull moment around you.You had such a great sense of humour! You were so full of life, there was this warmth you had whenever you came around.Your demise came as a rude shock!☹I miss you my dearest Uncle....Mummy misses you badly.....
Uncle you are sorely missed. My early memories of you are of you arriving late at night ...mostly ...to our house on Eric Moore close in Surulere, Lagos. You were always so full of cheer and my siblings and I looked forward to your arrival. I never saw you have a dull moment! You were always gregarious and seemed to have boundless energy. I would sit up late into the evening as you regaled my parents with amusing stories. You inadvertently introduced me to classical music.! And of course I remember how much you loved dogs. Did you not have dachshunds? I sometimes wonder how different my journey in our adopted homeland would have been without your influence, love and generosity. My mum your sister misses you dearly. Rest In Peace my dear uncle Ade.
Out of the dust of humble beginning The earth gained your honorable nature for uprightness and respect And the determination to rise above the clouds of bleak and doubt And the aspiration to reach for greater heights and opportunities You ran the race that was set before you and built a symbolism of honor and valor We have watched you in your thoughts however so deep, Your smile ever so charming, and Your conversation ever so engaging Knowing you alone truly understood the cumulative path that you walked The footsteps of your greatness will not be washed away from the core of our hearts It is embedded within the rocky formation of our lives Your legacy is like the ocean wave that will keep swashing on the shores of our individual memories Reminding us of what value you stood for and we should build on Among others, righteousness and generosity You ran the race that was set before you, you finished your course We will forever miss you and always love you Daddy rest in perfect peace
Uncle, I must say, was indeed like a father, uncle and friend all rolled in one. His unalloyed acceptance, love and constant warmth shown to me since I became a member of the Iluyomade family 32 years ago, remains indelible in my heart.
His death was so unexpected and so shocking, that I exclaimed out loud “Haaa!”, when I heard.
We can’t question God, neither can we query Him: for He knows best and He does good all the time.
Sir, thank you for all the good times of laughter and deep conversations each time we met.
Accept my sincere condolences Woyin, and and all my other younger ones and of course Aunty too.
May the Lord surround you all with His peace, wipe your tears and give you garments of joy in the months and years ahead.
Your dad was indeed a good man, who was loved by countless people. Cherish this fact.
