Ramona's obituary

In Loving Memory of Ramona “Bonnie” Sue Pilkinton

July 25, 1939 - June 20, 2023

Ramona Pilkinton, 83, of Miami, OK passed from this world on June 20, 2023, surrounded by her children and loved ones at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.  Ramona lived a life filled with love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Born on July 25, 1939, in Claremore, OK to Robert "Bob" Chrismon and Virginia Tanner Chrismon, Ramona was known by many as Bonnie, but perhaps the most important nickname of all was, Nannie. With 20 grandchildren, Ramona spent much of her life sharing her love and energy with them. A witty and outgoing woman, Ramona brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Ramona was predeceased by her husband, George Pilkinton, parents, and three brothers: Earnest "Earnie" Chrismon, Robert Chrismon, and Edward "Eddie" Chrismon. Ramona is survived by her six children: Kenneth "Jim" Hodges (Valerie), George Pilkinton (Lynelle), Sheila Coker, Edward Pilkinton, Sidney Pilkinton, Alicia "Lisa" Edens, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many others. Her memory will be cherished by all those who were blessed to know and love her.

Ramona was an avid reader, with favorites including her Bible and Western novels. She owned many paperback novels in her lifetime and often fell asleep with a book in her hand. She enjoyed playing card games with family and friends and could stay up late into the night with an intense game of Phase 10. One of her favorite recreational activities was playing bingo, which is an activity that many of her grandchildren will miss sharing with her.

Ramona's vibrant personality and zest for life will long be remembered by those who love her, and her impact on her family and community will never be forgotten. Ramona enjoyed cooking and dedicated countless hours to serving her church while she was physically able. Additionally, she served many years as a Senior Companion Caregiver. Ramona had an infectious personality and never met a stranger. May she rest in peace, knowing her love and admiration have been an inspiration to others.

The family will hold a memorial service for Ramona on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Southeast Baptist Church in Miami, OK where she was a long-time member. There will be an opportunity for those who attend to share stories of Ramona's quick wit and warm personality. A  small luncheon will be held after the services. The church address is 701 D St SE, Miami, OK 74354.
