Bud's obituary
Ralph “Bud” Raldon Robinson
Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1929, in Point Loma, California, to Ralph Robinson of Middlesbrough, England, and Donna McLean of Michigan. Affectionately nicknamed “Buddy,” he grew up alongside his older brother Jack.
At just 15 years old, Bud began hauling hay from Imperial County to San Diego, a job that soon grew into his own trucking company. At 19 he entered the US Army and honorably served our country in the Korean War. A true jack of all trades, his ventures included owning a successful forklift company that managed freight at the Port of San Diego, working as a private fishing vessel mechanic, serving as part-owner of the Buggy House, owning and managing commercial properties and working as a boiler engineer at the University of San Diego.
Though Bud never had children of his own, in 1954 he married Faye Atherton and wholeheartedly embraced the role of father to her five children. In doing so, he began a legacy that extended far beyond bloodlines, raising not only those children, but their children, and yet another generation after them. To his grandchildren, he was known lovingly as “Bapa” and “Bompa.”
Bud’s life was marked not only by his industrious spirit, but by the quiet strength of his character. He was steady, humble, and generous, a man whose positive nature made all who knew him feel at ease. He was a role model, a true definition of what it means to be a man, and was the foundation for a family whose love and connection has transcended generations.
He loved us and we loved him, and he will be missed dearly.
Forever in Our Hearts.
Rest in Peace.
