Ralph's obituary
Ralph Edward (Thayer) Hart, born October 5, 1945, in Reno, Nevada, passed away on April 22, 2025, in his hometown at the age of 79. Born to his father, Emery Thayer, and mother, Myrna (Carlton) Thayer at St. Mary’s Hospital. Tragically, at the age of two, he lost his father, Emery, in a factory explosion, leaving him and his mother alone. Myrna later married Baun Hart, and they had two daughters, Becky and Kathy. Ralph cherished his younger sisters, maintaining a bond with Kathy until his passing. His early years were spent in Sparks, Nevada where he enjoyed playing baseball and other outdoor sports. His career included time as a roofer and later as a car salesman, reflecting both his physical strength and his ability to connect with people.
Ralph's first marriage to Marjorie Verworn on November 16, 1963 blessed him with two daughters, Cynthia and Karen. In recent years, he was also happy to form a relationship with a third daughter, Kathleen. For over three decades, Ralph shared his life with Carolyn Quadrio. Their 32-year partnership was filled with joy, companionship, and devotion to their blended family. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home where grandchildren and great-grandchildren were cherished. Carolyn's passing in 2022 left a profound void in Ralph's life which contributed to his declining health.
Ralph is lovingly remembered by his daughters Kathleen Welch, Cynthia Smith, and Karen Hart; his sisters Becky Nagy and Kathy Silva; his grandchildren Brian Smith, Beau Welsh, Casey Quadrio, Babe Westlake, Broc Westlake, Rachael Curtis, and Sarah Gurczynksi; and his great-grandchildren Ellie Smith, Emerson Curtis, Caleb Gurczynski, Ariel Gurczynski, Forrest Barnes, and Althea Barnes. He took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed being an active part of their lives: cheering on his grandsons in baseball, football, and wrestling; watching his granddaughters in dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, and volleyball; and hunting and fishing in Elko, Nevada with his grandson Brian.
A proud member of The Elks Lodge in Reno, Ralph built lasting friendships and enjoyed golfing with fellow members. Those who knew Ralph will remember him as stubborn yet generous, a man who worked hard all his life and gave freely of himself to those he cared about. In his later years, Ralph’s sensitive side shone, especially with his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on June 7, 2025, at The Elks Lodge, 597 Kumle Lane, Reno, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Though he is no longer with us, Ralph Edward Hart lives on through cherished memories of laughter, shared activities, and loving support. May these memories bring comfort to all who knew him.
