Rachel's obituary

In Loving Memory of Rachel Bard (aka Joan A. Bingham)

Rachel Bard passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12th, 2025, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 98.

Rachel was born on February 10, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her life was a rich tapestry of creativity, passion, and kindness. She lived in Salt Lake City, UT, Chicago, IL, Ft. Worth, TX, Hollywood, CA, Coos Bay, OR and Denver, CO. She also spent several cherished years in Norway; a place she loved returning to throughout her life.

Legally changing her name from Joan Bingham to Rachel Bard, she had a successful career as an actress on both stage and screen that began in the 1960’s and spanned five decades. She loved her craft and while many of her roles were small, her presence was always recognized by audiences and those she worked with. She was an active member and supporter of the Screen Actors Guild (Los Angeles). Rachel was also a gifted artist and writer, having penned and illustrated a children’s book that, though unpublished, reflected her creative spirit.

Rachel is survived by her children Arran (Tom) Dolan and Rhone (Corina) Scoggins; grandchildren Amy (Paulie), Devon (Wendy), Erik (Heather), Levi (Yuki), and Brendan (Rachle); and four great-grandchildren, Lorna, Fallan, Emilio, and Luca. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would also like to sincerely thank the team at HighPointe Assisted Living and Bloom Hospice who were so caring and gracious in the last 4 months of her life.

She was a passionate advocate of equality for all and supported many causes with her time and money to advance civil, Native American, and Women’s rights. She was also a long-time fan and supporter of the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio. She especially loved, “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”, and never missed a show. Rachel was also a huge fan of “The Great British Baking Show”, referring to them as “my baker’s”.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider showing your remembrance by donating to causes that were important to her.

A private service will be held at a later date. If you have questions or wish to share a memory, please send them to: RachelBardMemorial@gmail.com.

“Gode minner varer evig” — good memories last forever.
