Ed's obituary
Preston Edward “Ed” Thompson, 75, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Spokane Washington after a brief illness.
Edward was born September 10,1947 in Charleston, South Carolina to parents Preston and Beverly Thompson. He was the oldest of five children.Edward graduated from Saint Andrews Parish High School in Charleston in 1966. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married in 1967 to Phyllis McKinney also of Charleston who he had met in Civil Air Patrol as a cadet while attending high school. In 1968 Ed and Phyllis welcomed their first child son James “Ashley”, daughters Laurie Anne in 1970 and Melanie Elaine in 1973. The Air Force took Edward across the world serving a tour in Vietnam and other tours across this great country. Among these Alaska was one of his favorites and resulted in a new place to call home for his family. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1986, he settled down in Anchorage, Alaska. He married his 2nd wife Helen in 2001, then moved in 2015 to Post Falls, Idaho to be closer to his wife’s family. Edward spent his spare time, after working and taking care of his family, by listening to music, playing games and taking care of his furry little friends. Edward had a great sense of humor and made jokes all the time, a trait that he inherited from his father. There was no more joy to him than making people laugh and smile.
Edward leaves behind wife Helen and stepson Josh of Post Falls, Idaho, brother David Thompson of James Island, SC, and sister Karen Gibson of Smoaks, SC. He is survived by his loving son James “Ashley” of Panama City, FL, daughter Laurie of Wasilla, AK and daughter Melanie on Anchorage, AK. Edward also leaves seven grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephew’s.He was preceded in passing by parents Preston and Beverly, brother Steven, sister Norma and his first wife, Phyllis.
