Prenor's obituary

Prenor Point du Jour, 86, of Miami, FL, passed away on January 27, 2023 after a fierce battle with stomach cancer.

Prenor was born on December 8th, 1936 to Dorvilma Point du Jour and Cleonor Mathurin in Maniche, Haiti. Before he could graduate from secondary school, he stayed home to help take care of his siblings and his ailing father. In 1960, he met Marie Decilia Dorcena, and they wed in 1962, going on to have 9 children: Jean Honore, Veronique, Jules, Rose Michele, Jean Edouard, Jean Richardson, Jean Luguns, Pierre Charly and Joseph Donalson. Initially, Prenor joined the tax revenue agency of Haiti (Contribution -DGI) where he worked there for a decade. He was known as one who accepted fair tax collections from the peasants despite a corrupt government system.

Prenor later joined a number of construction and architect engineers in the south side of Haiti that subsequently helped build multiple public schools in Haiti. One of the Prenor's proudest work was the building of his own home in Haiti where he raised his 9 children. Prenor did a lot of construction travel work that took him away from his family for a number of years. His contributions include various schools, bridges, irrigation canals, dispensaries, hospitals and churches spanning various cities in South Haiti. When he returned home from the masonry work, his first was act was handing over his full paycheck to his wife to feed the family. During his spare time from the masonry work, he did not neglect his farmland that he used to bring food to the table. His favorites include rice, beans and corn fields, sweet potatoes, various root vegetables and fruit trees. His children knew to run towards him when he returned from his garden to look into his basket for the ripest fruits of the season.

Prenor was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was exceptionally proud of his children, and his wife of more than 60 years. He always tried his best to support them. Prenor loved God. This was apparent to everyone who knew him; he would eventually make it to the Sunday Catholic mass in Maniche even if it was for the last few minutes. When he visited an evangelistic series at the Horeb French SDA Church in Brooklyn, NY with his sons in 2001, He gave his life fully to the Lord after he heard the full gospel of Christ. Prenor was a pious and dedicated servant of God and could often be found at the Adventist church when he wasn’t at home. He continued to serve God during his retirement years in his hometown in Maniche, Haiti. Up until his passing, he was actively involved in the Sabbath school class at the Hebron French SDA church where he studied his lessons every day.

Anyone who knew Prenor knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Prenor was predeceased by son Jean Honore, Veronique and Jules Point du Jour, his siblings Emma Pierre, Lina Milliance, Venite Point du Jour, Prevu Point du Jour, Clarel Mathurin, Prenante Point du Jour, Silia Attis. He is survived by his wife, Marie Decilia Point du Jour, his children Rose Michele Point du jour, Jean Edouard Point du Jour, Jean Richardson Point du Jour, Jean Luguns Point du Jour, Pierre Charly Point du Jour, Joseph Point du Jour along with his 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and his brother, Albert Point du Jour. The family requests that all donations and notes are sent to information indicated. A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at the information indicated.
