Portia spent her childhood in Bradford, Ohio, and lived a majority of her life in Kerrville, Texas where she, her husband and children moved to in the winter of 1979 to pursue opportunities for a better life, and of course warmer weather!
She dedicated 31 years as a cash office accountant for the Walmart in Kerrville, Texas, before retiring in 2014. She was excellent at her job and was frequently called on as a subject matter expert to investigate accounting issues at Walmart stores throughout the United States. We know her Walmart family loved her, and she loved them.
She was a strong, humorous, quick-witted, and spunky gal who devoted her life to be a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Her interests included traveling, shopping, cooking, reading, card playing and Bunco with friends. She loved her little dog Penny, who was her companion for the last 10 years. Some of the greatest memories Portia leaves with us were from holidays in her home, which were always festive and full of great food and family. Her signature dish, and a family favorite, was her famous homemade chicken and dumplings, with mashed potatoes. She never allowed you to leave her home hungry.
We will miss Portia dearly, and are comforted in the fact that she is no longer in pain. She was surrounded by loved ones at the end of her life journey, which we know meant the world to her. Even though Portia is no longer here with us, she will forever live on through us in our hearts and memories.
Due to the current world circumstances, a memorial will be postponed until Spring 2021. At that time, the family will gather in Greenville, Ohio to scatter ashes at her baby, Kimberly Sue’s grave at Greenville Union Cemetery. Following will be a memorial/reunion in the Greenville City Park for her family and friends to gather in remembrance. More information to come.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one or both of the following foundations in Portia’s memory: American Diabetes Association and/or American Lung Association.
