Pierre George Michael's obituary

With immense love and admiration, and some tears, we announce the passing of Pierre George Michael, who left us on September 4, 2023. Born on September 19, 2008, Pierre filled our lives with joy and warmth. His mother, Stephanie, Cat-Daddy Bernat, and siblings Sophie Marie Antoinette and Pau, will remember him always.

According to Psychic Horizon's, Pierre sought a charmed life, and we'd like to think he found it with us . In 2008, he was fostered via a home-based kitten rescue operation for the Thanksgiving Holiday. By that Christmas, Pierre and his sister Sophie were officially adopted with the financial support of Grandpa Steve.

In 2009, Pierre  moved to The Mission, where he soon met Rachel, a great love of his life who composed a song for him. Wuj became another favorite housemate, and later Jen provided additional cuddle opportunities.

Pierre's love for aesthetic refinement was evident when he perfected the art of sweater-wearing in 2014. The same year, he was adopted by Bernat, who managed to get over his sweater jealousy. Pierre's ability to create harmony and friendship was remarkable, as evident in his backyard serenades and when he got over territorial disputes and made friends with neighbor cat Capone.

Pierre was ever the artist's muse, inspiring a portrait by Austin Cho in 2009. In 2011, he became computer literate, or so we believe. His influence extended to carpentry when he inspired the creation of the lookout pantry with the stair pulls in 2019.

Among his other achievements, Pierre was a constant companion through greif and grad school. He started meditation coaching in 2015, and served as a Ringbearer/Mascot/Escort at his parents' wedding in 2016. With courage and grace, he deigned to share his home with his new human sibling Pau, learning how to love a baby, toddler, preschooler, and kindergartener. Over the years, Pierre became a regular for storytime, exemplifying the art of listening.

Pierre had a specific taste in life. He had a flair for accessories, from handkerchiefs to scarves and bowties to neckties. His favorite foods were cat food du jour, compostable packing peanuts, sardines, and he was known to enjoy chasing light reflections in the kitchen. Cuddling with Sophie was his favorite pastime, and he found the top spot of the refrigerator, laps, backs, and chests to be his favorite local spots. Described as calm, generous, and loving, Pierre was an embodiment of tranquility. Occasionally he had hangry disputes with Sophie, but he would always sign a song of love and lamentation afterwards to smooth things over.

Pierre reminded us to practice meditation and almost always let Sophie have her way. He encouraged, and still inspires the contemplation of the bigger picture, shifting perpectives to a higher plane. Pierre has provided us his legacy of mindfulness and gentleness.

In honor of Pierre and whatever is next for him, we offer up the mantra, 'om mani padme hum.'
