Jean's obituary
Phyllis “Jean” Solum was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and a friend. She left this world suddenly on August 18th, 2023 at the age of 96. She was surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She was born to Margaret Knab Frost and John Arthur Frost in Mason City, Iowa on July 17, 1927. She was one of ten children, and was the fourth child born.
She married Marvin Solum on June 25th, 1944 in Mason City, Iowa. They were married for 71 years.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jean. She loved crocheting, painting, playing Farkle, bowling, and going on many adventures with her sisters throughout the years.
She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her exuberant personality and her contagious smile could light up any room she walked into. She is survived by her sister Barbara Renberg, her daughter Linda Solum Zander, her son Marvin L. Solum Jr. and his wife Debbie.
Jean has seven grandchildren; Bryon Preminger, Leslie Preminger, Melissa Berger, Derek Preminger, Joshua Zander, Matthew Zander, and Tyler Solum. She has 11 great-grandchildren; Jessi Balk, Zoe Aryeh (Elizabeth), Kaylee Paul, Emily Rechkemmer, Kyle Preminger, James Morrison, Becca Berger, Curt Preminger, Rachel Berger, Daniel Berger, and Benjamin Berger. She also has one great-great-grandchild Jayden Terpstra.
Preceded in death is her husband Marvin Solum, her daughter Jeanne Solum and her eight siblings Evelyn, Marge, Francis, Pat, Hope, Jackie, Johnny and Allona.
