Phyllis's obituary

Phyllis Anne Copher Mattox, 68, wife of Stan R. Mattox, died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Bourbon Community Hospital. Born June 3, 1950 in Paris, she was the daughter of the late Marvin L. and Thelma Dean Lynam Copher. Phyllis was a 1968 graduate of Bourbon County High School and attended Anderson University in Indiana and the University of Kentucky.
She was the program coordinator for the UK College of Agriculture’s Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program (KALP) and received awards for outstanding work from the college and from UK President Capiluto. She was also successful Creative Memories consultant.
As an active member of Paris First United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir, led Sunday School classes, and created set designs for children’s plays. She was a certified member of the Bourbon County Master Gardener Association and served as president, vice president, and program coordinator. When her children were growing up, she volunteered with Cub Scouts as a leader and trainer, and with the Paris High School Band.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Stan Mattox; sons Robert D (Melinda) Mattox and Matthew Thomas (Paige) Mattox; grandchildren Robert D Mattox Jr, Angel B Mattox, Jesse Asher Mattox, and Matthew Tucker Mattox; brothers Daniel L. Copher and Jan Lynam Copher; sisters Ramona Katherine Copher and Jill Dean Wedding (John) England; mother-in-law Della B. Mattox; brother-in-law Gary (Karen) Mattox; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday 13th, at Paris First United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Eliseo A. Mejia, with burial in Paris Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Racz, Josh Wedding, Tony Basham, Mark Harper, John England, Phillip Copher, and Donnie Schmidt. She loved spending time with her shopping buddies, and they will serve as honorary pallbearers: Vickie Grigson, Kathy Vance, Sarah Wilson, and in memory, Brenda Mann. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Paris First United Methodist Church memorial fund.
