I am so very sorry to read this sad news. Phyllis was my boss at McDonalds in Kinston, NC. I adored her...we worked many hours together. She was such a hard worker—and had a fun side to her and took great pride in helping her employees learn and grow.

She was my Maid of Honor in my wedding, and was often on my mind after leaving the state. My heartfelt condolences to you all. May she rest in God’s Grace.

I admit that not living close to Daniel and Raye while Phyllis was growing up, I did not really know Phyllis well. BUT, when Daniel passed away in December 2012, Phyllis took on the job of Power of Attorney for Raye – not an easy task but a promise she had made to her Dad to take care of Raye (my sister). The following year, Phyllis started her fight with cancer and asked that I take over her job as POA. Again, taking on POA was a challenge and I needed Phyllis’ help. While facing her own health issues, she ALWAYS came through in assisting me with all my questions and continued to stay in contact with Raye and shower her with gifts over the last five years. When we lost Raye last May, Phyllis came to my aid again with the legal requirements – again thinking of others above herself. Phyllis was a wonderful example of Christ’s Love in action. I have been praying for Phyllis for the last 5 years and felt a special closeness. I was truly heart broken to hear of her going home to our Savior – our loss and HIS gain of a special angel.

There aren’t many words that can truly explain how much I miss you. I’ve known you for twenty-two years and you were my sister in every sense of the word. We had the privilege of sharing secrets that no one else will ever know. We’ve made countless memories in the kitchen especially around Christmas time when we baked an enormous amount of cookies and goodies (oh the funny stories we both could tell☺️.)
But, throughout all the years, my most precious memory is when God opened the door and allowed you to ask me questions about the Bible. I cry with joy now as I remember the passion in your voice the day you called me and told me that you were reading the Bible and how much you were enjoying it!
You’ve always put other people first and never did anything half heartedly. In fact, you almost vibrated inside with the desire to have the opportunity to pray for healing for others regardless how you were feeling yourself.
Girl, I want to pick up the phone and call you multiple times a day, but instead I talk to you out loud now. I take with me a lot of goals to attack life the way you did... being on fire for Jesus, compassionate, loving, organized, honest, and humble.
I love you,
Lashawn
