Phillip's obituary

Phillipus "Phillip" Coetsee, 76, of South Africa, passed away on December, the 10th, 2022 after a yearlong sickness.

Phillip was born on 22 September 1946 to Phillipus Jacobus Coetsee and Susanna Francina Catharina Norval (Coetsee) née Malan in Pretoria. His beloved Dad died when he was only 7 years old. In 1967, he met Ina Coetsee at the Gereformeerde Kerk Totiusdal, Pretoria, at the 'JV' Jongeliede Vereniging. They got married on the 6th of December 1969 (m. 1969-1996). They had 2 daughters, Ronel and Susan.

After matriculated, he went to the SAAF and while at the Air Force, he completed his NTS3. After the Air Force, one of his first jobs was as a Surveyor at the Phalaborwa Dam. Notable jobs included being part of PK le Roux Dam Project, the second largest dam in South Africa, being a Surveyor at the PK le Roux Dam (renamed the Vanderkloof Dam).

Phillip was an adventurer of note, and loved to travel. He loved the oceans, ships, harbours, trains, planes and automobiles. Phillip got married to his second wife, Ronél Coetsee (Van der Spuy) and had 2 stepchildren, Anél and Johan van der Spuy, and later Johan’s wife, Corlea. Phillip was predeceased by his wife, Ronél, his eldest sister and brother-in-law, Marié (Ousus) and Pine Pienaar, Hennie and Charlotte, his eldest brother and sister-in-law,  and in this year, 2022, brother-in-law, Barry van Rhyn, and brother, Johan. Marietjie van Rhyn is the only child left of the 5 Coetsee children and their spouses.

A special THANK YOU, to our Mom, Ina who took care of Dad in the last year of his life. We cannot thank you enough, Mom ~ you are a inspiration to us all. A special Thank you, to Ertjies van Vuuren and his wife, who found Dad in December in Gordons Bay, and looked after him. A special thank you to the Carers, Abigail and Agnes and also the Hospice where Dad was the last 4 weeks before he died. A special Thank you to our husbands, Pieter Swanepoel and Steven Long, for your emotional and financial support and our sons, Johan Swanepoel and Logan Long. Thank you to ALL for all the wishes and prayers this year.
