Phillip's obituary

Phillip Ken Pruett
Aug 31, 1943 - May 24, 2018

Phillip was born on August 31, 1943, in Hanna, Wyoming to Archie Harry Pruett and Dortha May Sparr and has 6 siblings: Archie, Marilyn, Sharon, Sandra, Dorothy, and Debra.

Phillip was a self-sufficient, simple man who loved & cared for his family & friends with all that he had. One of his favorite past times was to sit for hours playing his guitar and writing songs. He penned almost all the songs he had in his heart and collaborated with family & friends who shared the love of song with him. When he was not writing songs, he would enjoy reading Popular Science and Popular Mechanics which are his favorite magazines, as he strongly believed in reading as much as possible to expand his knowledge (after all the more you read, the more you know).

Phillip loved to tinker with electronics, collect comics and movies, he enjoyed teaching the game of chess and play video games with his grandchildren. With the adults, he would share his secret of playing craps and Keno, he also enjoy long conversations with anyone who would indulge him with a listening ear. His favorite snack is Cheez-It snack crackers and he always had Coffee Nips on him (we're pretty sure he was their biggest supporter since it hit the market). He was well known and almost always recognized from afar because he always wore his favorite cowboy hat wherever he would go! He smoked Camels cigarettes and enjoyed Jack Daniels Whiskey too.

Phillip died peacefully in his home on May 24, 2018, in San Jose, CA. Surviving are his wife Betsy Matedne, their children: daughters Tonya Amor, Tarra Pruett (both of San Jose, CA) and son Chad Pruett (Sacramento, CA); 13 grand children and 7 great grand children. He is also survived by his sisters Sharon, Dorothy Lynn and Debra, many nephews and nieces. Phillip was proceeded in death by his parents, infant sister Marilyn, brother Archie Pruett and sister Sandra Hensley.

The best song to sum up who Phillip was is "My Way" by Frank Sinatra... however he preferred the Elvis Presley version best. Holding true to the songs lyrics, Phillip lived life his way and on his terms!

He was loved beyond measure and will be truly missed.
