Phillip's obituary
Phillip Townsend Lontz passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He had a massive stroke on Monday evening and died peacefully 24 hours later. We are all so grateful that he was able to hold on long enough so that his wife and all his children were able to be there by his side, holding him when he left.
Electrical and audio engineer, sailor and aviator, rc model glider designer, enthusiastic ham radio and cq operator, RSSB satsangi, cancer survivor, surfer, hippie, vegetarian, carpenter, storyteller, builder of things, photographer, Apple computer lover and early adopter, massage and polarity practitioner, natural therapeutics advocate, armchair economist and philosopher, information sponge, Hoosier, Floridian, Californian, Vermonter, Hawaiian, New Mexican, nomad, loving father, devoted husband, and a beloved friend by all who came into his life.
He was a man with an endless supply of stories. Many of them were even true.
Phil was born November 25, 1944 in Kansas City, MO and adopted as an infant by his parents, Charles and Anne (Smith) Lontz. Raised in Richmond IN and Del Rey FL, Phil attended the Culver Military Academy of Indiana like his father before him, and was graduated from the Graham-Eckes School in Palm Beach.
He is survived buy his wife Christine Cassidy; daughter Meagan Sullivan (John) Kemps of Napa CA; son Porter Lontz-Underhill of Santa Fe NM; son Shannon (Saskia) Lontz of Truckee CA; grandsons Oshun and Kayden Lontz, and Max Kemps; and his sister Sarah Ann "Sally" Beck of Richmond IN.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, Charles Robert Lontz of Richmond IN, and Anne Rosalee Smith of St. Joseph MO; his paternal grandparents, Harry Russell Lontz of Richmond, and Laura Agnes Twigg of Union City IN; his maternal grandparents, Lewis Mother Smith and Sarah Davis Townsend both of St Joseph MO.
