Philip's obituary

Philip Raymond Martin, 73 formerly of Manchester, CT died after a 5 year battle with dementia at his home in Bluffton, SC on January 26th, 2026.

He is predeceased by his mother Betty Guiheen, step-father Patrick F. Guiheen, his brother Patrick T. Guiheen, and his sisters Rosemary Guiheen and Kathy Slater.

He is survived by his wife Cindy Ragan, his daughter Pamela Zurawek Martel and son in law Michael Martel of Hardeevile, SC, his daughter Patricia Martin of Ellington, CT.,and his two grandchildren, Aidan and Addison Zurawek of Ellington, CT. He also leaves behind his brother Michael Martin of NC, his sister Evelyn Paine of NC, his sister in law Debbie Guiheen of Middletown, CT and many cousins, nieces and nephews, including his favorite nephew Patrick “PJ” Guiheen Jr. of East Hampton, CT.

Phil was born in Hartford, CT to a working class Irish family. He served 8 years in the Navy followed by a long successful career in computer programming. Phil was an extremely funny, intelligent , charming, sarcastic rascal who loved to laugh and make people laugh. He loved music, singing, movies, celebrity trivia, dancing, playing the guitar, board games, golf, and walking for miles. You always knew where you stood with Phil, he told it exactly how it is in the bluntest way possible. There will be no funeral or memorial service because Phil insisted “nobody weep over his dead body.” Instead to honor his memory think of something funny he said or did, he would get a kick out of that. Rest easy Phil, we love you.
