I am very saddened by news of Phil's passing. He was a regular visitor to the Big Apple Circus, where I was press representative, and we spent many convivial moments speaking of theatre, and baseball, and of course the circus. I was always impressed by his knowledge of theatre and the experiences that he shared. He was a friend, and I'll miss him. Offering condolences to his family and friends — may the memories of Phil bring you comfort.

58 years of friendship is a rare and beautiful thing.  I will miss Phil terribly.  Smart, witty, a great teller of tales, skilled writer, and a humane, perceptive theatre critic (also a rare thing!).   I'd like to think he and my late husband Paul are enjoying a reunion.  Love and deepest sympathy to Phil, Mayte, Sam and Carolina.
