Philip's obituary
Philip “Phil” Grant Collins of Tomball, Texas passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2023, at the age of 83. Phil was born on June 8, 1940, in Gorman, Texas to DM and Lillian Collins. He graduated from Milby High School in 1958 and, having decided to prepare for the ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ, attended East Texas Baptist College where he graduated in 1962. After graduating he volunteered for the draft and served with the United States Army.
Upon completion of Army training, Phil was stationed in Germany, God’s Providence was in full motion. He learned of a Christian young adults’ group that met a short distance from his post. It was through this group in 1963 that Phil met and subsequently married the love of his life, Evelin Collins, on November 28, 1964. As a new couple, they returned to the United States in May of 1966 and - as they say - the rest is history.
Phil worked as an accountant in the aerospace industry until his retirement in 2004. He served as an elder and in the adult and children’s ministries at church. Phil and Evelin were blessed to share almost fifty-nine years of marriage and raised two children, Michael, and Susan. Although Phil had many hobbies, including woodworking, his greatest joy was his eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who called him Opa.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Evelin; son, Michael and wife Theresa; daughter, Susan and husband Kelly; grandchildren, Tarynbeth and husband Jason, Arielle, Spencer, Kyle, Cory, Kevin and wife Erin, Zacharias and Katherine; great-grandchildren, Summer, Adalynn, Kinsley, Zaden and Lilliana
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Champion Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline Road, Houston, Texas.
