Philip's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Philip Edward Bickel, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Philip was born on February 1, 1942, and passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judith; his daughter, Michele Heggblod; his son-in-law, Daniel Heggblod; his cherished granddaughters, Haley and Noelle Heggblod; and his much-admired grandson, Ian Heggblod. He was predeceased by his father, Ernest Bickel; his mother, Grace (Davis) Bickel; his brother, Ernest B. Bickel, and his sister Suzanne (Bickel)Kelley. Philip's youngest sister, Sally (Bickel) Haag survives.
In 1998, Philip and his family relocated to the serene community of Port Orange, Florida. A devoted sports fan, Philip always valued and supported his grandchildren's sports teams above all others. His favorite pastime was attending gospel concerts with his wife, Judith. The couple often shared their experiences from these concerts, leaving a lasting impression on everyone they met. Among his most cherished teachings were the values of listening more and talking less.
Philip's extraordinary life is best described by his loving commitment to his family, his unwavering kindness, and his generous spirit. These values will be a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. Known affectionately as Pepop by his grandchildren and their pets, Philip's endearing presence will be greatly missed but will continue to live on in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Riverbend Community Church. All those who were touched by Philip's life are invited to join in remembering and celebrating this remarkable man.
