Peter Riley, 91, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, at his son's home. He was a beloved father of 5, grandpa of 9, and great grandpa to 8, with another on the way. Peter's departure from this world at 11:47am was met with much love and admiration from the entire Riley family.
Peter was a remarkable individual with a wide range of interests and talents. He had a deep passion for music and had a knack for making and playing his own instruments. His knowledge seemed to know no bounds, as he was always eager to delve into new subjects and engage in lengthy conversations about them. Peter's thirst for knowledge was evident in his avid reading habit, especially in the past year. He took pride in his work in special education and had countless stories of his travels to different countries while supporting his wife, Dorna (Tootie), during her Peace Corps career. Additionally, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years.
Peter's pet pug, Harris, held a special place in his heart, and he would be comforted to know that his granddaughter is caring for Harris with great love and tenderness.
In his final act of selflessness, Peter donated his body to the University of New England for scientific research. This act reflects his curiosity and desire to contribute to the advancement of knowledge even after his passing.
Peter formed deep connections and cherished friendships through his involvement with Meals on Wheels. He especially treasured the companionship of his longtime friend, Dennis, who faithfully visited and provided companionship.
Per Peter's wishes, no formal services will be held in his honor. Instead, let us remember him fondly and celebrate the rich and vibrant life he lived. Peter's legacy will continue through the memories he created with his family, friends, and the lives he touched.
Please respect the family's privacy during this time of grieving.
