Peter's obituary
Peter Wrightson Ream, 71, passed away at home on June 6, 2025, in Bonita Springs, FL. Born in 1954, in Greenwich, CT, Peter lived a life marked by devotion to his family, enduring friendships, and a spirited love for music, art, animals, and the ocean.
The youngest of three sons born to Barbara Borden Ream and John Wrightson Ream of Greenwich, CT and Hyannis Port, MA, Peter spent summers throughout his life with his family on Cape Cod. His early years by the sea helped shape his lifelong passion for boating and his signature phrase—“catching, not fishing!”—a reflection of both his humor and enthusiasm for spirited adventure.
Peter’s education began at The Brunswick School and continued through The Eaglebrook School (Class of ’69), Tabor Academy (Class of ’73), and culminated at the University of Virginia (Class of ’77). He was very proud of his education at these schools, but even more proud of the lifelong friends he made at them. Many of his friends affectionately called him ‘Reamer’.
Peter had recently become a resident of FL, but was a resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA for 37 years. There he built a home filled with laughter and love alongside his wife of 42 years, Patricia Rogers Ream (69). Together they raised three children: Constance “Connie” Ream Druska (37), and twins John Wrightson Ream II (34) and Hollister “Holly” Wrightson Ream (34). Peter took pride in his role as a father and was overjoyed to become a grandfather recently to granddaughter, Bridget Mackenzie Druska (13 months), and grandson, Callum Wrightson Ream (1 month).
Peter’s zest for life extended beyond family into his many hobbies and passions. Music brought him immense joy and to say he loved live music would be an understatement. He was a regular anywhere that had live music, and could frequently be found jamming at home to the blues on his Hammond B3 organ and keyboards. He enjoyed attending the New Orleans Jazz Festival with his three adult children.
Peter enjoyed snowmobiling in the winters and boating and fishing in the summers. He was Captain to his sport fishing boat ‘The Cherrystone’ and navigated many boating and fishing adventures. He once caught the largest shark in the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament, and also loved to go on expeditions for giant bluefin tuna.
Known for his gregarious personality and easy laugh, Peter had an infectious spirit that drew people close with his larger than life stories. He was a loyal friend whose warmth and generosity of spirit left lasting impressions on all who knew him.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, his beloved Aunt Connie, and his two older brothers, Robert Clarke Ream and Glentworth Borden Ream.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 11am on September 13, 2025, at St. Andrews By-The-Sea Episcopal church, located at 12 Irving Ave, Hyannis Port, MA.
Peter will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, fisherman, boat Captain, self proclaimed ‘music junkie’ and steadfast friend. May his memory and generous laugh forever bring comfort to those who knew him.
