Peter's obituary
Peter grew up in Germany before crossing over to the US as an adult. After traveling across the country in 1990 he ended up settling in San Francisco, CA a place he would refer to as “the most European and cool of American cities”. It was also there that he would meet the love his life and marry Lisa on July 20, 1992.
Peter worked in the nightlife industry as a general manager for venues like DV8 and others before uniting with friend, Guiv Naimi to create the nightclub promotions company Spundae.
Spundae ended up becoming a massive success. The company earned accolades, fans, and achievements over the years it grew. And grew it did initially across multiple cities on the west coast to across the US and even with international events. Spundae grew from nightclub promotions, to a record store in the Haight-Ashbury district, to a full music label publishing music for the many artists involved in the rise of the company. But, unlike normal businesses or entertainment companies Spundae created a family of people that were involved. That “family” of friends has only grown over the years with people from all different walks of life and backgrounds. Before tech CEOs would give talks about the culture of their workplaces, Peter co-founded a social enterprise that created countless relationships for so many people and bring up such joy filled memories that everyone became a raving fan.
Peter was never the type of person wanting to be in the middle of the spotlight. In fact, to get a picture with him he would often come up with the most hilarious or goofy poses that he originally thought would dissuade people from taking pictures of him to it being his trademark style. Peter’s dry wit and direct spoken way about him made anyone that met him warmup to him and pay attention when he speaks while his sarcasm made everyone laugh and appreciate his company even more. In fact Peter would frequently walk up to people he knew on a typical fun night out, put his arm around their shoulder, and say in his thick German accent “Our lives are not that bad”. Always on the note and somewhat under spoken.
In 2004 Peter and his wife Lisa made the move to Las Vegas, NV. Las Vegas treated Peter well and he was always fascinated by the great weather and several places to go eat, drink, and have fun. Peter started another foray into nightlife this time focusing on marketing with Nightlife Guru. He went on to add clients from many of the casinos on the strip. In 2016 Peter made the decision to step away from the industry that he had belonged to and help grow beyond immeasurable heights he wanted to change careers. He joined his wife Lisa in becoming a realtor. The real estate industry, for Peter, was a new opportunity to do something different and enjoy Las Vegas further. It also gave he and Lisa a chance to work together daily as “Team Beckers”. In one of their first open houses, they created an atmosphere like a nightclub grand opening and became to move up swiftly through the ranks of realtors.
If you ask anyone that knew Peter about what he was like you will get a lot of very similar answers. He was at all times caring about his friends, supportive when they were in need, and ultimately one of the most positive and upbeat people they knew. His think German accent was a signature trademark of his making him unmistakable anywhere and at anytime. His warm nature made his company treasured and his sarcastic wit kept even the heaviest of topics light. Peter knew that we had to truly live and enjoy life in all its moments. We have lost an amazing friend, a devoted husband, a successful businessman, but most importantly a great human being.
On May 30, 2021 Peter passed away from complications due to Covid-19. Those of us that knew him will remember him fondly as we are all better to have had him our lives our one job moving forward in remembering him and honoring him is to be more like him in spreading warmth, compassion, kindness, and happiness to others. Ironically, of course, he would rebuff this and say “You’re crazy and you talk too much”. Rest in peace.
