Pei-Sau's obituary

Pei-Sau Sun, known to her family and friends as Pei, died unexpectedly on June 5th, 2023 from a heart attack. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden departure.

Pei was born on April 9th, 1934 in Shanghai, China. She was academically strong and attended one of the most prestigious schools in Shanghai before completing her high school education at Pooi To (培道) in Hong Kong. She graduated from National Taiwan University (臺大) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, a rarity for a woman at that time. She returned to Hong Kong to work in the aviation industry before returning to her alma mater as a physics teacher.

Pei emigrated to Canada in the late 1960s. She eventually settled in Toronto where she worked for a firm who made tracking devices to help research wildlife. Being a nature aficionado, she loved her work and her loyalty to the firm was legendary. Pei remained working for the same firm until retirement.

She had many passions in her life—nature, sports, church, music, friends, family, and food. Pei retained her zest for an active life and played tennis until she was in her 80s! She was constantly guided by her Christian faith and not a day passed without her spending time in communion with God. She often said to her family, ‘I am so grateful for a beautiful life’ – those words came from her heart and soul. She was truly a unique person who lived life her way with simplicity and independence. She was someone who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like having a chat with her neighbours, having a stroll in the park, and having a meal with her friends and family.

Everyone who knew Pei knew her to be someone who was joyful, easy to laugh, and authentic. She is remembered by her family, including her sisters Susan and Maggie, her brother Philip, her nieces Amy, Margaret, Deanna and Serena, her nephews Jeff, Jason and Hubert, the extended family, her friends from school, church, work, and sports, and her neighbours. We all miss her.
