Peggy's obituary
Peggy Swain (Wallace) 1950-2024
Peggy Swain (Wallace), 74, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on November 29th, 2024. She was born in Portland in 1950 to Betty Gowen (Curtis) and William C. Wallace. Peggy attended Multnomah Grade School and Wilson High School. She previously worked in the hospitality industry, owning and operating a small catering business.
Peggy was a creative and free spirt and shared her talents with those around her. Most noteworthy was her love of cooking and of teaching others to cook. Peggy enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, and she energized any gathering she attended—you knew when Peggy had arrived! Among family she was also known as Pegra, Viking Princess, for her tenacity fighting for a cause. As eldest sister, she was fiercely protective of her siblings. Even when she had little for herself, she always tried to find a way to give to those around her.
Peggy will be remembered for her laughter, her quick wit, her love of life, and her spirited nature. Just like her fiery red hair that she was so proud of, she burned bright and powerfully in life.
Peggy’s memory is carried on by her two sons Braden Swain and Nathan Wallace; her daughter-in-law Manuela Wallace; her grandchildren Phillip Wallace and Ronan Wallace; her siblings William (Barbara) Wallace, Paul (Kathy) Gowen, and Ruth (Jim) Lofthus; and her nieces and nephews Corey Lofthus, Andy (Emily) Lofthus, Marissa Gowen, Rachael Gowen, and Katherine Wallace. She is predeceased by her parents Betty Gowen (Curtis), father William C. Wallace, and stepfather Bill Gowen.
An intimate memorial service will be held at a later date.
