Peggy's obituary

PEGGY SAMII

obituary

Peggy Jean (Switzer) Samii was born December 23, 1930 in Oakland, California. At a young age, she, her older sister Dorothy and her parents, Ruth and MacDonald Switzer, moved to the Sunset District of San Francisco. As a young girl, she played in the sand dunes along the Great Highway and swam at Fleishhacker Pool. She attended Parkside Elementary and Lincoln High Schools. She met her future husband, Farhad Samii, shortly after the end of World War II. They were married in 1949 and remained together until his death in 2011. Peggy was an extremely creative person. As a trained classical pianist, her life passion was music. She had perfect pitch and was renowned for her ability to sit down at a piano and play music by ear. She was also a writer of plays, poetry, and music. In her later years she wrote a fictional, historical book. Peggy earned her BA degree and teaching credential from San Francisco State College (now University) in the mid 1960s. Her career as an elementary school teacher spanned 26 years. She was a beloved teacher who still communicated with several of her students up until her death. Peggy loved to travel. One of her favorite destinations was the United Kingdom. She once said that her only true regret was that she did not travel more. Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Deborah and Valerie, son-in-law Don Krueger, several nieces and nephews, and her dear friends to include her second family at Peninsula Del Rey Senior Living where she thrived and happily resided for the past 13 years. In lieu of flowers, donations  in her memory may be made to the ASPCA.
