Peggy's obituary

Moms Neverending Story

Mom always said... “Honey let me tell you something” before telling her life stories and history of the fmaily to all of us that would listen to everything she said and remember each story of our family.

So let us tell you something about our dearest Mother.

Peggy Parks was born on June 4, 1935, in Stephens County, Oklahoma, to Speegle and Bertha Creel.

She peacefully passed away on March 5, 2024, in Tigard, Oregon, at the age of 88.

As a young child, Peggy’s family moved from Oklahoma to California, a state she would call home for the majority of her life.

She was the oldest of 4 girls (Verona, Jimmie Lee, and Sandra). She learned at a young age how to cook, bake, and help around the house. In the early years the family would follow the crops up and down the west coast where they would work the fields. Once they became settled in California she would often accompany her father to his place of employment, which at the time was a dairy, where she would help milk the cows.

Her in-separatable companion was her sister Verona. They were less than a year apart in age and did everything together growing up. They remained very close up until Verona died in 2016.

Shortly after graduating from Tulare Union High School in 1953, she and Verona moved to Southern California. There she met a young Marine and got married in February 1957. Soon thereafter she gave birth to her son Jerry, they moved to Albuquerque New Mexico where she gave birth to her daughter Laura. They then moved to Arlington Texas where she began her career working for the phone company. After divorcing in 1964, she moved her young children back to California to be closer to her family. With young children to raise on her own, Peggy continued her career with the phone company. She was a devoted mother who worked diligently to provide for her children who always came first.

During her career with the phone company, she relocated multiple times when the office she was working at would consolidate and close. She retired at an early age to attend to her parents. Upon their passing, she moved to Portland Oregon to be close to her children and her grandchildren.

Peggy loved to cook. Every holiday, she would put together a lavish feast that everyone would enjoy. She always had a new recipe to try and published a few of her own.

Her family’s favorite dish, and one that she was known for was her tacos which we nicknamed Aunt Grannys tacos which she perfected over the years.

Other hobbies that Peggy enjoyed were collecting depression glass, genealogy (researching the family tree going back to the 1800's), playing board games (especially Scrabble), and telling family stories. Her famous line at the start of every story was “Honey let me tell you something”. When you heard that phrase, you just settled in and started listening and memorizing each and every story.

Peggy will be deeply missed by her sister, Sandra Sheldon, son, Jerry Parks, daughter, Laura Parks, grandchildren, Kaitlin (Parks) Nuth and Ryan Parks, and all the family and friends who knew her. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Verona, and Jimmie Lee, father, Speegle Creel, mother, Bertha Creel, and daughter-in-law Paula Parks.

Peggy was a loving and devoted mother, and grandmother, who had a kind and caring nature that touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever live on in our hearts and those who knew her.

Peggy will be interned at Cresent Grove Cemetery, in Tigard, Oregon on June 21, 2024 at 11am.
