Peggy's obituary
Peggy Monley, a woman whose life was a colorful quilt woven with artistry, teaching, faith, adventure, and boundless love, passed away peacefully in her Woodland home at the age of 80, holding the hand of her devoted husband Tom. A gifted artist, Peggy created gorgeous quilts for family and friends. For over three decades, she was a beloved teacher at Birch Lane and Dingle schools, leaving an indelible mark on countless students and student teachers. A dedicated wife, loving mother to her children and their spouses, and proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren, Peggy’s Iowa Swede, 4-H pig farm, Essex General Store upbringing informed her approach to community as she traveled to Davis, California in the 1960s to help establish University Covenant Church. Later she made her home in Woodland, where she lived the past 50 years. She was one of the founders of Summer House, and was active in other community endeavors such as Dingle School and the Shakespeare Club. Peg’s final community event was with her STARS (Stitch Tiny And Rip Seldom) sewing group at the Woodland Library—a perfect reflection of the value she placed on her friends and the arts.
Peggy’s deep faith resonated through her harmonious singing with the choirs at Holy Rosary and University Covenant Churches and many musical adventures around Europe with the North Park University Choir. Peggy embraced life with a spirit of adventure and a love for travel, traversing Europe in a VW bug and the United States in a purple station wagon with her kids in tow. Peg was never happier than at Stinson Beach, waltzing in the coldest waves with her children, and later watching her grandchildren in those same waves. Granny Peg’s warmth, talent, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
