Peggy's obituary
Peggy Marie (Carter) Humerickhouse passed away on February 20, 2024, following a recent hospitalization. Peggy was born on December 30, 1954 in Charleston, S.C. to Bernice Milton and Nell Claxton Carter. In February 1970, Peggy married Earl Humerickhouse and after living in South Carolina and Colorado, they settled in Stuart, Florida.
Peggy spent the first years of her marriage as a housewife raising her three children while Earl was an over-the-road truck driver. Anyone who has had the privilege of joining her family for dinner, knows what a great hostess and cook she was. Her specialty was welcoming others into her home and making sure they were adequately fed.
As the children were growing up and attending school, Peggy started working at Braille International where she soon became a supervisor. When the company went out of business, Peggy acquired their Braille printer and set up an in-home office to continue typing and printing government contracted jobs. Due to health problems, Peggy had to retire from working and spent the last few years dealing with these issues.
Peggy was an easy-going person who had no problem making friends. She had the kind of personality that made you want to join her in conversation. Her smiling manner was welcoming and she opened her door to everyone. Through the years, it was rare that someone wasn't sharing their home and her generosity.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Earl; daughters Krissi Kimbrough (James) and Angel Ferdig (Steve); grandchildren Josh and James Kimbrough, Krieger Humerickhouse, C.J. (Caroline) Jackson, Elizabeth and Nova Kimbrough and a number of great-grandchildren; brother Mike Carter (Debra) and sisters Gayle Rusch, Elaine Turner and Kay White (Bill) and sister-in-law Ruth Turner, along with nieces and nephews. Preceding Peggy in death were her parents, B.M. and Nell Carter, her beloved son J.C. (Joseph Carter), her brother Randy Carter and sisters Sandra Lawson and Sue Hallex; sister-in-law Doreen (Dodie) Carter; brothers-in-law Val Humerickhouse, Larry Turner, Lloyd Lawson, Bill Rusch and Leonard Hallex and niece Joyce Polk and nephew Ricky Rusch.
A Celebration of Life honoring Peggy will be held on April 20, 2024 at the Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, Florida at 10:30 a.m. A reception will be held following the service at the family home.
